Coach of the Year: Meigs leads Generals to best finish in nearly 20 decades

The year was 2011, and the Horseshoe Bend girls basketball team just won its Sweet 16 matchup, reaching the Elite 8 for the third time in school history. However, that's just where things had peaked for the Generals for over the next decade. Until this year.

Horseshoe Bend took home a runner-up finish in the Class 2A Area 8 Tournament, cementing its spot in the playoffs. A 57-52 win over Tuscaloosa Academy to follow punched the Generals’ ticket to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 15 years — and at the head of the operations was coach Erica Meigs, the 2026 Outlook Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.
