Local real estate agent Gordon Pickler serves from the ground up

Donald Campbell / The Outlook

Local real estate agent Gordon Pickler has been in the business for 45 years, but before he was selling lakefront properties, he was in the United States Air Force for 23 and a half years, serving in locations around the world and meeting a number of major political figures during his time in the service.

For the past 45 years, Gordon Pickler has been selling real estate in the Lake Martin area, giving people the chance to purchase their own slice of lakefront property. However, real estate was not always Pickler’s career path. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, during the Korean War, and served for 23½ years.

After graduating first in his class, Pickler was offered his choice of assignments. He chose a station in France, serving with an Air Force squadron dating back to the First World War’s Lafayette Escadrille (a unit of American volunteers serving in the French air wing prior to the U.S. entering the war), based at a former German fighter base near Paris the Luftwaffe used to protect a nearby Renault factory.
