Can you believe it?  We may be able to enjoy higher lake levels this fall, maybe until Oct. 15. Wow! With the fall extension, weekend visitors will be able to learn what full-timers have always known and enjoyed. Absolutely, the best time on Lake Martin is the fall.   

For readers who may not be familiar with the term ‘fall extension,’ an explanation might help.  During the seven-year process of relicensing Martin Dam by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Alabama Power Company (APC), with the enthusiastic support of the Lake Martin HOBOs and most lake residents, requested FERC’s approval to extend the summer lake level into the fall as late as Oct. 15, if conditions permitted.
