The Point of Lasting Legacy

For Dana and Will Ferniany, building a home on Lake Martin wasn’t simply about creating a place to retire. It was about holding onto a piece of family history that had been passed down for generations.

Long before Lake Martin was created, Dana’s great-grandfather, Walter William Hardy, owned property in the 1800s along the Tallapoosa River. When plans for creating the lake began to take shape in the 1920s, the Hardy family ultimately deeded 1,700 acres of its land to Alabama Power for approximately $3,600.
