A New Site historical marker relates the story of a near-turning point in the Creek War. Over a period of several days in the winter of 1814, The Red Stick warriors of the Creek Nation found General Andrew Jackson’s forces in what later became Coosa County and attacked him on all sides. This hellish ordeal very nearly succeeded in breaking Jackson’s troops and rewriting the history of Alabama.
