From Karaoke to Center Stage

18 Years of Kowaliga Idol

In the quiet chill of early January, when the thrill of the holidays has faded, a different kind of energy begins to hum through the air. It’s a sound that started 18 years ago as a small karaoke contest in a now-defunct lounge and has since evolved into what is arguably the largest singing competition in the state: Kowaliga Idol.

While the voices on stage are the stars of the show, the engine behind the event is Lake Broadcasting, the Alexander City-based media company that owns and operates local radio staples like Kowaliga 97.5 FM.
