Temperatures are not the only thing on the rise

Be cautious when enjoying the sun. Make sure to protect your skin.

Warm, sunny days are right around the corner. While we revel in spring and look forward to summer, it is also a time to remember to be cautious in the sun and be aware of the dangers of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Current estimates are that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetimes. Research estimates that non-melanoma skin cancer affects more than 3 million Americans each year. Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common forms of NMSC, but if detected and treated early, those affected have a greater than 95 percent cure rate. Melanoma Monday stresses awareness, early detection and prevention of skin cancer. Â
