The Central Coosa boys basketball team extended its Class 2A Area 8 record to 5-0 after taking down Horseshoe Bend 76-34 in the first round of the area tournament. 

For the Cougars (13-8), Cory Thompson nearly notched a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven steals — sitting out all of the fourth quarter. Jacquez Parker finished with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers and adding three steals. Waylon Chapman-Allen and JaQualyn Kelly each finished with 14 points each, and Chapman-Allen also added another seven steals to his statline.
