City council work session may spawn water solution

In the course of discussion during the Alexander City City Council’s work session Monday, there may be a solution to Hillabee Towers’ issue of paying $20 per month each for 78 meters.

Hillabee Towers manager April Buono has been trying for four years to find a way to reduce the independent living facility’s monthly water fees. The city council voted in September 2021 to amend the sewer codes which increased the meter fee to $20. The unintended consequence was the amount Hillabee Towers is now paying. The apartment building has only one master meter but is charged a fee for each apartment.
