Multiple buildings downtown are scheduled to be demolished by the end of the month. Over the weekend, the old city police department was demolished.

Portions of downtown Alexander City were closed over the weekend due to the demolition of the old city police station.

“The project is on schedule and has proceeded smoothly without any issues,” city project manager and code enforcement officer Aaron Gortney said. “The contractors have made the appropriate preparations to secure and protect some of the main components of the property.”
