In response to an increase of reports of thieves targeting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients with fraudulent phone calls, the Alabama Department of Human Resources issued a warning.

According to a press release from the Alabama DHR, scammers are calling SNAP recipients and claiming to work for the DHR or EBT Customer Service. They are asking recipients to provide high-value information such as EBT card numbers, personal identification numbers and other personal information. They claim to need the information to verify the clients’ EBT account in order to “unlock the account.”
