An anonymous letter presented to the Alexander City City Council at Monday night’s council meeting led to questions regarding Mayor Woody Baird’s residency within the city limits.

According to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, both the incumbent and candidates can run for office in that municipality if they have been a resident for 90 days prior to the election. They also must be a resident of the state for 90 days and a U.S. citizen for one day. Another requirement is they must be a registered voter within that municipality.
