Beware local residents – officials say that some in Alexander City have already been targeted by scam artists posing as Internal Revenue Service agents saying they are trying to collect past due taxes.

Carley Cummins with Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama said residents have reported receiving calls making monetary demands. She said at this time of the year, everyone is scrambling to get their taxes done. Scammers are looking to cash in on taxpayers who are unaware of how the IRS operates.
