He looked to be in his mid-20s, wore blue jeans, a white Auburn hat and navy Auburn jacket. Considering his orange and blue attire, you’d think he’d look devastated. Why? It was the night of the 1985 Iron Bowl and Van Tiffin just booted a 52-yard field goal to sink the Tigers. Instead, he was giddy with friends, standing in line outside of a Port Orange, Florida, movie theater.
Waiting to get tickets for the fourth installment of “Yo, Adrian!” — otherwise known as “Rocky IV” — a few friends and I chatted it up about the down-to-the-wire football game we’d just witnessed on ABC. Being central Florida kids, the winner wasn’t important to us. We just liked good football, particularly when Keith Jackson did the play-by-play.
