Getting Better All The Time: Water-access homes continue to grow in popularity

The interesting thing about real estate is that the market is always evolving. That constant change keeps things interesting and, in some cases, surprising. Recently, a new market segment has emerged as being very significant in dollar volume: The single-family water-access segment.

As defined by the local Multiple Listing Service, water-access properties are those that have deeded access to a lake, river, pond or other body of water. Access via a storage slip in a marina does not qualify as deeded access. Until a few years ago, this segment of the market was almost non-existent at Lake Martin. For those wanting lake property, the options were for either a single-family waterfront home, a unit in a condominium or a townhome unit. In fact, as far as keeping statistics on residential properties was concerned, I was only interested in tracking waterfront sales.
