Taking up a hobby is a common theme among retirees. For most, this hobby takes the form of a low-key activity, such as golf or painting. But Alexander City’s Pat Johnson took a different route, passing over putters and brushes in favor of guns and ammo.

In her sixties, Johnson became one of the many women to join the world of competitive shooting. The trend of women learning to shoot competitively goes hand in hand with the growing number of women who are taking up guns for personal protection.
