Not everyone is able to but many people in the community can donate blood and/or platelets to help with the blood shortage nationwide.
The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on blood supplies, and the demand for blood product has grown by at least 30% according to a Red Cross spokesperson. In addition, the summer months are always difficult for blood banks to host blood drives or receive donors because many people go on vacation and schools are closed and typical hotspots for hosting drives.

* WHERE...Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers,
Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah,
Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon,
Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Russell,
Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa,
Walker, and Winston Counties.
* WHEN...From midnight Sunday Night to 10 AM CST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
