It’s no secret that Stanhope Elmore’s girls basketball team is one of the best Class 6A teams in the state. In the most recent poll from the Alabama Sports Writers’ Association, they moved up a few spots and are now ranked fifth overall.
In Friday nights’ game against Wetumpka, the first of area play, the Mustangs proved that they are worthy of that top-tier rank. They defeated their rivals in decisive fashion on the back of a 50-point second half when everything seemed to fall into place.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect until 6 PM CST this evening.
* WINDS...Northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 22 percent.
* IMPACTS...The combination of a dry air mass and windy conditions
will result in critical fire weather conditions. Outdoor burning
is not recommended. Current wildfires could worsen due to the
winds.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
