The Elmore County Commission once again approved access to juvenile detention space.

At its meeting last week, the commission authorized contracts with the Alabama Department of Youth Services for one detention bed paid for by youth services, a contract with Montgomery County for access to two beds at a total cost of $30,000 per year and up to three beds at the Lee County Youth Detention Center on an as-needed basis. The extra beds are a necessity because of growth in Elmore County. The two closest facilities to house juveniles are in Montgomery and Lee counties.
