Holtville girls wrestlers take on their first matches against Valley.

Girls wrestling has been an AHSAA sanctioned sport since only 2024. It is still fairly unique, but it’s spread like wildfire throughout the state. Holtville is the newest school that has added it to its repertoire, with coach Connor Blakely taking over the program for the Bulldogs.
“The girls actually approached me about it,” he said. “We have a lot of girls around the school that really want to do different things, and I know there’s two of them in middle school, two of them are in high school. I think that they just wanted to try something new. They see (the sport) is growing, and that really got them interested in it.”
