A rocky trip: Sailboat owner misses exit, now stuck on Chain of Rocks in Mississippi River — The Mississippi River at low stage rushes over the low-water dam that was built along with construction of the Chain of Rocks canal and lock at Granite City. The dam maintains enough depth upriver to permit barge traffic from Alton to the Granite City lock.
