Horseshoe Bend School eighth grader Ava Butler submitted an art piece so out of this world it gets to go to space.
Butler participated in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program’s mission 20 art contest. Central Alabama Community College was selected for SSEP’s mission 20 that will launch in April 2026 to the International Space Station and back. Accompanying CACC’s experiment for the mission will be Butler’s artwork embroidered on the astronauts’ suits.

Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens,
Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega,
Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa and Walker.
* WHEN...From 7 AM CDT this morning through this evening.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Area creeks
and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
