Norfolk Southern is considering the closure of a popular downtown rail crossing that is used by residents shopping in the area, dropping children off at school and traveling non-stop from Highway 22 to Highway 63.

The Alexander City City Council approved two items at Monday’s meeting to lay the groundwork for what is known as the Bibb Street crossing. It’s the crossing that is just north of the row of storefronts ending with Alexander City Pawn and across from Piggly Wiggly.
