In observance of Memorial Day, the American Legion Post 143 held a wreath laying ceremony Monday in memory of Private First Class James J. "Spanky" Harrelson at the Tallapoosa County Courthouse.
At 8 a.m., legion members proceeded toward the courthouse steps with the wreath and laid it in front of the World War II Memorial. As a member of the American Legion Post 143, Jason Turner spoke about the importance of Memorial Day as well as military service.
