Strings attached: Alexander City’s Freddie Lynch found guitar fame had a high price

Ron Colquitt / For The Outlook

Freddie Lynch stands in front of a mural of Stevie Ray Vaughan, one of his guitar heroes, in downtown Alexander City.

Freddie Lynch lost his first true love, Cindy Lou, in a fiery car crash but to this day keeps her neck brace as a reminder of his early years in rock and roll bands.

Cindy Lou was a beige-colored Fender Telecaster guitar he bought for $300 when he was in his 20s. Lynch, now 66, still plays an occasional gig in the Alexander City area, although he is modest about his command of the strings.
