MOBILE (AP) – Gov. Bob Riley and his opponent, Roy Moore, each got what they wanted at an Alabama Republican Party’s weekend meeting. Riley received lots of praise, and the party followed Moore’s advice to keep allowing crossover voting by Democrats.

The party’s 21-member steering committee backtracked on its recommended ban on crossover voting, which allowed the party’s weekend gathering in Mobile to become a festive party-building occasion rather than a fight over party rules.
