Lyles Forbes’ sailing life began in 1971 on Lake Martin, and while the activity became a livelihood that took him across the country from coast to coast, it’s brought him back to the lake for pure fun with a Micronesian-inspired trimaran dubbed Pompano.

As a young tyke, Forbes was introduced to sailing by his father, who sailed with Dixie Sailing Club at Lake Martin. But in 1972, the family moved from Montgomery to Birmingham, and Forbes continued his nautical education at Logan Martin Lake. As he grew older, sailing became much more than a pastime, and he joined the staff at The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News, Virginia.
