Don't get in your head

Golf is fun, but it can be brutal at times. Most of you that play the game will experience highs and lows throughout your playing careers. Some days, everything just feels right, and it may seem like you can do no wrong … Then, there are days, weeks, months – even years – that go by, and you may feel as if you can do nothing right on the course.

Approximately one month ago, I had a member come into our Golf Pro Shop at Willow Point, and we had a chat about Jordan Spieth. That afternoon, I remember telling this member, “Sometimes one bad shot can get in a player’s head.” Most of you probably remember the epic chunk shot that lead to quadruple bogey on No. 12 at Augusta in 2016 when Spieth blew a commanding lead? Well, despite winning three times the following year, including the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Spieth, who for the first four years of his career was one of the best week in and week out, had fallen to the deep dark depths of bad golf.
