The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its annual all-state team for each classification. Six football players from in and around Elmore County were represented among the best of the best of Alabama.Ā
Wetumpka had one player receive all-state honors, senior linebacker and Elmore Countyās defensive player of the year, Walt Myrick. Myrick finished the season with 153 tackles, leaving broken school records in his wake. He ranked 12th in the state for total tackles, with a whopping 22 tackles for loss, five sacks and one fumble recovery.Ā
