The early signing period for college football came and went last Wednesday and Auburn brought in the lowest ranked class (41st ) I can remember since official standings have existed. That sounds worse than it actually is due to several factors.

First, Alex Golesh only had three days to salvage a recruiting class that was already near the bottom of the SEC. Second, it was always going to be a lower ranked class because of its unusual size. The Tigers only signed 18 players. Finally, the availability of the transfer portal makes the importance of a single class far less significant.
