Barnes leads Stanhope Elmore to big win over Percy Julian

  • Stanhope Elmore put together a strong performance against Percy Julian, earning a 42-14 victory behind a productive ground game led by junior running back Dee Barnes.
    Barnes led the Mustangs in rushing yards, making key plays to help move the offense down the field and contribute to Stanhope Elmore’s commanding performance. The Mustangs found success offensively, scoring 42 points while holding Percy Julian to 14.
    Following the game, Stanhope Elmore coach Hunter Adams expressed pride in his players and the outcome, recognizing the team’s effort while emphasizing the importance of continuing to improve as the season progresses.
    Despite the convincing victory, Adams identified penalties as an area that needs attention. Reducing those mistakes and cleaning up execution will be important for the Mustangs as they prepare for their next opponent.
    For Adams, the goal is not simply to celebrate a win but to use the performance as a foundation for continued improvement. Maintaining momentum and playing with consistency will be essential as Stanhope Elmore moves forward.
    “We need to treat every game like a playoff game,” Adams said.
    That mentality will guide the Mustangs’ preparation for their next matchup. Adams emphasized the importance of carrying their momentum from one game to the next while eliminating the penalties and execution errors that could hinder the team’s progress.
    With Barnes providing a strong presence in the running game and the Mustangs coming away with a 28-point victory, Stanhope Elmore will look to build on its success against Percy Julian.
    The challenge now is to maintain that standard. By limiting penalties, improving execution and approaching every matchup with the urgency of a postseason contest, the Mustangs hope to carry their momentum into the next game.

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Hurricane Isaias will continue to move towards the Northern Gulf
Coast, making landfall this evening. Winds will gust as high as 50 to
60+ mph late tonight through Saturday, resulting in the potential for
widespread downed trees and power lines. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 4
inches with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches will result in the
potential for flash flooding, especially in urban and other poor
drainage areas. Isolated tornadoes may develop across portions of
Central Alabama, mainly east of Interstate 65. Eastern portions of the
state are in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) severe risk to account for this
activity.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
Protect against dangerous wind having possible significant impacts
across Central Alabama. Potential impacts in this area include:
- Some damage to roofing and siding materials, along with damage
to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds. A few buildings
experiencing window, door, and garage door failures. Mobile and
manufactured homes damaged, especially if unanchored. Unsecured
lightweight objects become dangerous projectiles.
- Several large trees snapped or uprooted. Several fences and
roadway signs blown over.
- Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban
or heavily wooded places.
- Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent in
areas with above ground lines.

* FLOODING RAIN:
Protect against life-threatening rainfall flooding having possible
extensive impacts across central Alabama. Potential impacts include:
- Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues.
- Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks in
multiple places. Small streams, creeks, and ditches may become
dangerous rivers. Flood control systems and barriers may become
stressed.
- Flood waters can enter many structures within multiple
communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washed
away. Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water with
underpasses submerged. Driving conditions become dangerous. Many
road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out.

* TORNADOES:
Protect against a dangerous tornado event having possible significant
impacts across southeastern portions of Central Alabama.. Potential impacts
include:
- Several places may experience tornado damage with a few spots
of considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures.
- Locations could realize roofs torn off frame houses, mobile and
manufactured homes demolished, large trees snapped or uprooted,
and vehicles tumbled. Dangerous projectiles can add to the toll.

Elsewhere across Central Alabama, little to no impact is anticipated.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

* EVACUATIONS:
Follow the advice of local officials.

* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:
Now is the time to complete all preparations to protect life and
property in accordance with your emergency plan. Ensure you are in a
safe location before the onset of strong winds or possible flooding.

If you are relocating to safe shelter, leave as early as possible.
Allow extra time to reach your destination. Check the latest weather
forecast before departing and drive with caution.

If heading to a community shelter, become familiar with the shelter
rules before arrival, especially if you have special needs or have
pets. Take essential items with you from your Emergency Supplies Kit.

Keep cell phones well charged. Cell phone chargers for automobiles
can be helpful, but be aware of your risk for deadly carbon monoxide
poisoning if your car is left idling in a garage or other poorly
ventilated area.

It is important to remain calm, informed, and focused during an
emergency. Be patient and helpful with those you encounter.

If you are a visitor, be sure to know the name of the city or town in
which you are staying and the name of the county in which it resides.
Listen for these locations in local news updates. Pay attention for
instructions from local authorities.

Rapidly rising flood waters are deadly. If you are in a flood-prone
area, consider moving to higher ground. Never drive through a flooded
roadway. Remember, turn around don't drown!

If a Tornado Warning is issued for your area, be ready to shelter
quickly, preferably away from windows and in an interior room not
prone to flooding. If driving, scan the roadside for quick shelter
options.

If in a place that is vulnerable to high wind, such as near large
trees or in a mobile or manufactured home, consider moving to a safer
shelter before the onset of strong winds or flooding.

Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather radio or local news outlets
for official storm information. Be ready to adapt to possible changes
to the forecast. Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather
warnings.
