Last season the Holtville Bulldogs saw their softball season come to an end just one win shy of making the state tournament. The Bulldogs finished first and undefeated in Class 5A Area 5, sealing their spot in the regional tournament with dominant wins over area opponents Brewbaker Tech and Marbury.
In the regional tournament, Holtville picked up a win in the first round against Jemison then was shut out by Beauregard in the following round. The following day, the Bulldogs downed their long-time rivals, the Elmore County Panthers, in extra innings, 8-6. The win generated enough momentum for the Bulldogs to shutout Sylacauga.
