The Wetumpka Indians started this season with high expectations as the defending Class 6A Area 4 champions. Fielding one its best teams in recent history, the Indians were still a young team with only three seniors and three of five starters being underclassmen.

Regardless of experience, the Indians played hard all season and finished with a 20-9 record, 2-2 in the area. Despite losing to rival Stanhope Elmore in the area tournament championship, the Indians clinched a playoff berth with second place and faced No. 7-ranked Murphy in the sub-regional round.
