Cliff Williams / TPI Tallassee resident and business owner Joey Wiginton has announced his intentions to be on the municipal election ballot as a candidate for mayor. He will hold a formal announcement event at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Restoration 49.

Everyone wants to see Tallassee thrive.

The small eastern Elmore County town has seen textiles leave in the last few decades. But it was prepared having already recruited and landed industries such as Neptune and GKN to name a few. Infrastructure needs such as water and gas are being addressed. Before $15 million in grants, Tallassee had the highest per capita amount of cast iron gas lines in the nation. Those are in the process of being replaced.
