A remembrance of the Confederate States of America is growing in Tallassee.
The Tallassee Armory Guards Camp 1921 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) has been constructing Confederate Armory Park for the last several years on its property in downtown Tallassee. The park looks over the Tallapoosa River, Highway 14 and the Fitzpatrick Bridge.
Cliff Williams / TPI A statue for Stonewall Jackson has been standing in a private park construction by the Tallassee Guards of the Sons of the Confederacy. The group is adding to the park to honor those who fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy and members of the Tallassee Guards.
Cliff Williams / TPI It took a crane to place the large stones weighing more than four tons each in the park. The stones will be topped with generals from the Confederacy.
Cliff Williams / TPI Much of the work done in the private park has been done by members of the Tallassee Guard. The members are welders, engineers, contractors and more.
