Local schools prepare for solar eclipse

The United States will see a highly unique event today, with the first total solar eclipse over any part of the United States since February 26, 1979, the first total eclipse that will be seen nationwide since June 8, 1918, and the first whose path of totality will fall exclusively within the borders of today’s United States since the summer of 1257.

Though the path of totality does not fall across Alabama, residents of the Lake Martin area will still be able to experience this once in a lifetime event, as the day will become “night” in the early afternoon hours. Local schools are joining in on the celebrations, as specialized lesson plans aim to help these students better understand the event they will bear witness to.
