Alexander City native Freddie Brooks had a love for basketball few can match. Although he did not touch the court, he still made an impact at Benjamin Russell and Faulkner University. 

What started as just an opportunity to keep the scorebook in order during BRHS basketball games under then-coach Paul Carney, Brooks took it much further. He enrolled at Faulkner University, initially just watching games, until he had a conversation with then-coach Jim Sanderson.
