Students in both the county’s school systems will still be receiving free breakfast and lunch.
For the past five years at least, both Tallapoosa County and Alexander City school systems have been eligible for meal reimbursement from the United States Department of Agriculture. These reimbursements are enough to cover the cost of both lunch and breakfast for all students in the county.

At 1221 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Goldville, or 10 miles northeast of Alexander City, moving southeast
at 15 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Dadeville, Jacksons' Gap, New Site, Goldville, Hillabee Creek,
Northern Lake Martin, Daviston, Eagle Creek, Horseshoe Bend, and
Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and
pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stoke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and
drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
