While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly the first woman in Tallapoosa County to open a business, there are several in recent memory that go back to the 1950s, most notably Louise Day’s radio program, “Daily Doings,” part gossip and part news. Alexander City residents stopped other activities to listen to her program at noon on WRFS.

Throughout the years, many women have owned businesses around Alexander City and Tallapoosa County. Until recently, many of those businesses were dedicated to women’s services such as hair salons and childcare.

In 2018, several Facebook posts gave more insight to Day’s contributions to Alexander City.
