New fire tower dedicated as Jimmy K. Lanier Overlook Fire Tower

The Lake Martin community officially gained a new landmark on Friday as the Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association hosted the dedication ceremony and grand opening for the newly restored Overlook Fire Tower.

Community members, volunteers and local business leaders gathered to celebrate the completion of the massive project. The 110-foot-tall, 80-plus-year-old tower stands on the highest point overlooking Cherokee Bluffs, offering breathtaking new views of Lake Martin’s southern end.
