Beginning this morning crews will use explosives to loosen about 260 tons of rock at the site of the old Lafayette Street culvert.

Alexander City Public Works Department director Gerard Brewer said Drilling Contract Services Inc. of West Blocton will blast in the neighborhood for three days as part of a $160,000 project to install new pipes.
