Community leaders explain the future of medical cannabis

The Lake Martin Parkinson’s Support Group hosts a medical marijuana seminar at CACC’s Betty Carol Graham Tech Center on Jan. 26.

Medical cannabis is one of the hot button topics around the nation. To bring awareness, the Lake Martin Parkinson’s Support Group hosted a medical marijuana seminar with guest speakers Dr. Robert Edwards and Rep. Ed Oliver.

As the director of the Center for Advanced Care at Russell Medical, Edwards explained cannabis was once used to alleviate coughing, pain, menstrual pain and neuralgias before the 19th century. With prohibition in the 1920s and former President Richard Nixon’s War on Drugs, the tune around cannabis changed over the century.
