Lake property owners have just three weeks to replace the beaded Styrofoam in their floating piers or docks with encapsulated foam.

Alabama Power Company has publicized the Jan. 1, 2010, deadline for removing beaded Styrofoam for several years. Beaded foam has been found to be detrimental to the environment, which is why Alabama Power decided to ban it.
