Jackson’s Gap begins groundwork on FEMA shelter

Site prep has begun on the future FEMA storm shelter in Jackson’s Gap. The shelter has been two years in the making and will be next to the fire department.

Just a few months ago, Jackson’s Gap was the site of an EF-3 tornado. Yet, the town has already been well into the works on severe weather preparation.

Jackson’s Gap mayor Frank Lucas said the town has been working on getting a FEMA storm shelter for the past two years and this past week the site prep has started. The hope is to have the shelter open at least by the end of the summer.
