Students at Jim Pearson School were educated about the protocol of retiring an aged flag on Tuesday morning at the front of the school during an event that coincided with Veterans’ Day, which is Thursday, Nov. 11.

The flag-burning ceremony in front of the entire student population and staff, which was emceed by Steve Presley, provided the children a brief history lesson about the most visible symbol of this nation and the dignified way it must be destroyed when it is ripped to shreds by the wind and weather over time. It must also be burned if it hits the ground.
