Legislators work to redraw congressional lines

Throughout this month Alabama legislators are working to redraw the congressional districts. A special session will begin on July 17 to select the new map.

A landmark court ruling declared Alabama's congressional districts unconstitutional. Now, state lawmakers are responding to the decision.

On June 8, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the current Alabama congressional districts violated Section II of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, specifically regarding voter discrimination based on race, color or membership in one of the language minority groups identified in Section IV.
