Russell Medical Center hosted the 2023 Florence Nightingale award during National Nurses Week for the nurse who goes above and beyond. Physicians and staff wrote nomination letters for several Russell Medical nurses. During the May 10 ceremony, the top three were recognized and the winner was announced. Â Â

Davenport explained Florence Nightingale was the pinnacle of what the nursing profession is all about. The Florence Nightingale award by extension recognizes a nurse at Russell Medical that goes above and beyond.

Mandy Wright was awarded the 2023 Florence Nightingale award. "Her smile lightens up our unit and she always leads by example," her letter read.

Holding back the tears in her eyes, Mandy Wright said accepting her award "I don't deserve this but thank you so much. This hospital is family to me."

With the award being received, all the nurses in the room were asked to stand and to be given a round of applause.

Russell Medical Chief Executive Officer Jim Peace unveiled the Florence Nightingale statue, where Mandy Wright's name is engraved along all the recipient before her.
