Republican Party declares tie between Hovey and Whatley in Senate District 27

Cliff Williams / The Outlook The public looks over individual box results from the primary election in Tallapoosa County Tuesday night at the Tallapoosa County Courthouse. Provisional ballots were brought to the courthouse by poll workers after polls closed. The provisional ballots will be examined Tuesday to determine if they will be added to election results.

The Alabama Republican Party Candidate Committee said the decision between Jay Hovey and Tom Whatley will come down to a game of chance.

The committee met behind closed doors Saturday for a contest. It heard arguments and reviewed evidence. At the end of the day it declared the race a tie and will follow Alabama Code 17-12-23 to determine the outcome.
