Same-sex news draws local reaction

Two local same-sex couples reacted to Tuesday’s decision that could have marriage licenses available on Feb. 9.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals denied the state Attorney General’s request for a stay on a judge’s ruling allowing same-sex marriage in Alabama Tuesday.  The latest ruling, barring any further action, means that Alabama’s same-sex couples could begin applying for marriage licenses when U.S. District Judge Callie Granade’s original stay expires on Feb. 9.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange immediately petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay until the nation’s highest court rules on the matter later this year.
