Smith advances to national public works competition

Jordan Smith will show his knowledge on various large equipment operations at the APWA Public Works Expo National Roadeo competition on Sept. 9 in Atlanta.

Alexander City is getting representation on a national level. At a recent public works competition, Jordan Smith emerged as a top equipment operator in the state. After taking home multiple trophies for his stellar demonstration of large equipment use, he is now getting ready to put his skills to the test on a countrywide platform.

Smith, City of Alexander City Public Works equipment operator II, recently competed in the state American Public Works Association competition in Montgomery. There, he, along with the rest of the street department, executed skills in the Equipment Roadeo by showing knowledge and ability with various equipment. Along with receiving awards such as Best Overall Performance and Team Champion, Smith’s experience earned him high placements in equipment categories. He placed first for backhoe and mini-excavator and second in skid steer. His first-place awards landed him a spot at the national competition.
